The Tippecanoe County community is mourning the tragic loss of Ashley Ray, a 21-year-old Lafayette resident who died following a motorcycle crash on Tuesday afternoon, June 9, 2026.
According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a serious collision at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of the new U.S. 231 and Veterans Memorial Parkway. Emergency personnel arrived to find a devastating crash involving a motorcycle, a Honda CR-V, and a passenger vehicle.
Investigators reported that the Honda CR-V was traveling southbound on U.S. 231 and attempting to make a left turn onto Veterans Memorial Parkway. While crossing the northbound lanes, the SUV allegedly failed to yield to an oncoming motorcycle traveling northbound through the intersection. The motorcycle and SUV collided, resulting in a violent impact.
Authorities said Ashley Ray was ejected from the motorcycle during the collision. Following the initial crash, the motorcycle continued into the intersection and struck an Acura TL that was stopped at a red light on Veterans Memorial Parkway.
Emergency responders provided immediate aid before transporting Ray to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Ray later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash. The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office officially identified the victim on Wednesday.
The drivers of both the Honda CR-V and the Acura were not injured in the incident.
Investigators stated that alcohol and drugs are not currently believed to have contributed to the crash. However, toxicology testing will be conducted as a routine part of the investigation. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
